Paul, I'll be there representing EONA ADRaudio with the ATA618 HH, assuming I can make the final date work with my schedule. This thing weighs over 300lbs, so the easier the load in the better!

Don't try and bite off more than you can chew... remember how many people wanted us to do more boxes, more testing, etc at wedgefest and remember how we used all of the time available?

HMMM. A 240 pound, six X 18 8.4Kw sub. We'll put that in the "large format" category.

Yah, I went through that with my first sub shootout a few years ago. I was thinking of having three classes, small, regular and large formats with 4 cabinets each for a total of 12 cabinets to test. Maybe more?

NAMM ends on Sunday, January 21st 2007. I'll look at Monday and Tuesday, January 29th and 30th for doing this. Any thoughts?

Too Tall makes a good point about the venue. The place I'm looking at is narrow but long and has real acoustic paneling around the stage, the room ceilings and far walls. It sounds pretty good as is.

Sounds like a reasonable amount to put into two days to me, if you're going to be trying to do real measurement. You might talk to Tom Danley or someone else who knows about the difficulties of getting reasonable sub measurements in small spaces.

Of course, unless we do this in a big open field, there'll always be some room affect on subs. We'll use the same spot for actual measurements so all cabinets will "see" the same room affects.

Would love to attend if the schedules work out.  I could bring 2, possibly 4 LA400 subs.

I would strongly suggest those attending bring music material.
That was actually, one of the weak points (Other than lack of time) from the last Shootout.

We had all the right measuring tools, and, people to calibrate
them, however very limited on music material.

And we call ourselves soundmen.  Laughing

First day, testing and documentation.

Second day, listening with music and A/B comparison.

If we choose 12 cabinets and utilize 1/2 hour for testing each, we'll eat up the first day. Then we'll choose which subs will make it to the listening phase during the second day.

Perhaps we should limit this to new, new style, unique and simply massive subs only. Should we shy away from the subs that are well known, have been on the market for years or are of simple design? EG: Front loaded vented double 18. We all know what they sound like and how they perform.

Let's not make this an amp or DSP shootout, I suggest we land on one huge amplifier and one DSP to do it all with, this way, each sub gets the same electronics "voicing" and such.

I'm open to suggestions, folks.
