The Next Shootout
« on: October 20, 2006, 07:43:39 PM »

It's time for me to host another subwoofer shootout, it's been a few years now. I'm thinking around January in the NYC area. Im looking for an appropriate venue.

It'll be:
-Ground level load in.
-Plenty of power.
-Good for two days' worth of testing/pounding.

I'm aware that manufacturers closely monitor The Live Audio Board so there's no reason they won't know about it. All are welcome to attend, join or send gear. Of course, they'll be some heavy hitters but we'll also do some smaller cabinets.

I'll be looking for somebody who can bring, set up and operate a test rig.

Paul, I'll probably be able to show up. I may even be able to bring some big-dog subs... keep us informed!

Paul:
We can use my theatre, 1300 seats, in Northern NJ.
45 Minutes to Manhattan on NJ Transit.
I have lots of shows, but if we could work on the schedule I would love to host.
200 A for audio power, 5D console, 650P Subs, Irish Pub next door...

All you needed to say was Irish Pub next door......

OK, the possibilities are there, thanks!

I got a dozen SRX728s I could bring. I'd love to be able to recreate the myth of Tom Danley knocking out phone services during the testing of early Servodrive products.

January  (18th-21st) is a lousy month for manufacturers because of NAMM in Calif.

How about Feb?

How about a set of goals so it doesn't just end up a cheese tasting party?

Hi Paul,

For testing I suggest a flat hall with a fairly high ceiling. For instance a school gym at least 60’x60’ and at least 30’ high.
To make it really complicated you could have testing at one venue and “listening” in a theater.

Just trying to confuse the issue as much as possible…

OK, I've got one venue here in NYC right next to Grand Central Terminal. 18 foot ceilings, installed line array, lots of acoustic treatment, plenty of power and it's a roll in. I'm in with this place and there's also a great Irish pub three steps away. psssst: There's a APB console here.....

Good point about NAMM Dan, maybe we can do it a week after so speaker companies can ship from LA to here-if they want to participate. We should still have some cheese to go with the beer......

I have a nice offer from the good folks at Outline, I'd love to FINALLY hear their stuff!

McCauley subs are installed here, I'm sure I can get one of their new quad 15 line array sub to power up.

BASSMAXX will be represented.

As above, there's an offer of some JBL's.

I can get some Turbo, Yorkville and EV subs locally.
