Adamson M15
« on: October 16, 2006, 11:43:08 PM »

Well, the Wedgefest in Troy retreats in my rear-view, along with reminiscences of adventures in 140+db land, and now it is time to get on with individual evaluations of monitor boxes.

I haven't been heard from very much lately; soon after Wedgefest 2006, I had a little "vacation" in Yale-New Haven Hospital to have 7 screws, a plate and a rod removed from my leg, and I am much less mobile on foot as I recover and await my next orthopedic reconstruction project. Meanwhile, my sparse posts have no doubt been flavored by Percocet and Vicodin (la la Smile ) .

The Adamson M15 wedge, somewhat overlooked by fellow LABsters, caught my eye, partly because I have always been partial to 15" 2-way systems, having spent much of my adolescence listening to the likes of the Altec Voice of the Theatre

Mike,
Do you think you could post a couple photos of the end speakon layouts? I think a multiuse cabinet having those extra speakons makes for much easier wiring. I'd like to see how they did theirs.

My Yorkie E210s backside speakons puts a heckva strain on the cable when in the normal monitor position. My Yammy SM12IVs have them only on one side and that's the speaker TOP when pole mounted  Sad

Of course, this begs the question, does Neutrik make rubber filler caps for unused speakons? They ought to!

So, I wanted to let everyone know that the Adamson M15's got picked up and are making their way down to to MD to Evan's shin dig - road trip - so stay tuned and let's see who gets them next.

Mike, unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to get out the camera and get a few shots before sending these off to Maryland. Maybe the next tester will be more on his toes.

Oops... I forgot to come back here and post this... When I was in MD for Evan's LAB Get Together I made a point to takea shot or two of the Adamson M15s. As you can see the layout of the NL4s is quite inventive, the bottom of the speaker has a jack just like the top as well.

I saw this speaker at the Lab Meeting... they are nice looking, I didn't get a chance to hear them (like a musician would).

The only think I could think of was:
If that speaker had a poll mount... this would be the most perfect speaker for me... it could me a monitor one day and tomorrow it'll be over top of a single 18" sub.

I'm using: EV QRx212 over JBL SRX718s(2) with Crown IT's and MRX512m & MRX525 on monitors with XTi's; all controlled by Yamaha LS9-32.  I have a bunch of other stuff too.

Adamson wants you to use their proprietary mounting system. Those two rectangular recesses to the left and right of the handle have keyhole-shaped slots where the special bolts mount.

Matt, I was thinking along the same lines as you but concluded that you're out of room for a pole mount and have to use their system to adapt. I didn't get a price.

I had these M15's and used them with a loud rock band on a medium sized stage.(32x16) I thought the box was well constructed and very versatile because of all of connections on all sides of the box.

I used Adamson's processor, as instructed, and used the M15's full range. Loud? Oh, yeah! Sound good? Not in my opinion. I thought the high end was very harsh and it took some eq'ing on the mon. board strips to get it out. Even after extreme cuts on the board it still sounded, well, annoying!

After the second set ended the muso asked me to remove and replace them with our usual mons (Peavey QW mons).

I would have liked to tried them out bi-amp'd but did not have time to do so. I would think that a box of this caliber should have sounded better full range or not.

Tom, my wife has very good ears and she also found it annoying. And I agree that something in this league should be at least listenable without biamping.
