hey all
Im upgrading my my old 16 year old Peavey SP 5-ti's
I have like $500 to spend on 2 good sounding speakers
I have a few choices right now and i need some help

I can get 2 JBl JRX115's for $450 a pair new
i always loved jbl but dont know how they will perform

I can get 2 Yamaha Club series 5 15's for $450 as well
I have yamaha subs and love those to death

I can get Madison MAP15's for $350
Ive never used madison before so im not sure..

what option do you all think is best for upgrading my Peaveys and how will they compare
for reference money doesnt matter here considering i cna afford all 3 of them

Im open to any reccomendations of other brands i can afford as well if you dont like the 3 i have.
My style of music is Jazz, Rock, indie, Techno and whatever floats

thanks all

I had the Yammi Clubs and got a really clean sound out of them. I think they are the best entry level speaker made..

i heard the yamaha have the beffiest, punchiest sound, but i dunno, il sorta leaning toward the jbls tho the jrx 115's are onloy 250 watts rms and 1000 peak..my peaveys were 500 rms and 750 peak..not sure how that would work out, but yeah ill give the yamaha a chance

Yamaha clubs all the way. Much cleaner especially in the HF region and the driver is a little more beefy.

sounds good, ill check out getting some yamaha s115V's this weekend
im excited seeing as my peaveys im so used to only have a frequency repsonse down to about 100 and thats it, i have zero clue why they set the limit there but im not used to hearing any bass at ALL from a main cabinet, from what i hear these have a nice punch and should compliment my 3 yamaha sw188iv's very well
thanks all

I a/b'ed the yamaha s215v's and the jrx dual 15 tops next to each other and the yamaha's sounded better especially in the horn. From my reading the jrx compression driver only has a 1 inch voice coil and is crossed over at 2k ther yamaha has a 2 inch voice coil and crosses over at 1.5k (at least in the dual 15 cabs.) If all else fails go to guitar center and have them hook the up side by side, on off each channel of a amp and hook it up so one cab is on the left and the other is on the right and take a listen for yourself thats what i did.

There is no reason for you to buy JRX speakers.  They are not really much of an upgrade.  They are a very "Entry level" speaker with a weak HF driver to meet a particular price point.  I would choose the Yamahas if I were you.  One other thing you could look at.  Since JBL has now released the MRX speakers I am seeing some really cheap deals on the Mpro stuff.  Check out the Mpro 400 series speakers too.  I don't know if you can find them in the right price range or not but it is just one other option.

Good luck, Ryan

The JBL 415 is a definite upgrade over the two enclosures listed above, the problem is that the 415 does not have fly points on it for rigging. How are you going to install these, flying, shelves etc?

I hear some talk about low frequency carry from your high cabinets, how are you looking to set up your system and what kind of subwoofers are you running? Also, what system controls do you have in place now or are you also looking to change this as well?

A well balanced system that is not asking to much out of the highs and has enough low end to boot is the key here, let me know the answers to the questions above and I will dig deeper into this for you.

E-mail me at bwelliver@multi.com for a quick response, I am happy to help.

Yam Clubs over JRX any day of the week. Those things ROCK for their size and price.
