Mac,
I could go for a 4 banks of 8 layer but I'm afraid for symmetry's sake they would take away 4 DCA's as well. Not sure how I feel about that.
Or maybe a single row DM2K-esque 32 with remote layer(s)?

A production company in town has a pair of brand new Yamaha PM7D's on demo.
I have been told they are so new there is not even an paper on them yet. Has anyone seen or heard of this new console yet?
I am trying to get a look at them as soon as i can. I'll post as soon as I see them.

Could it be that they have a pair of M7C mixers in for a demo? Not PM7.
I think it would be great if there were some other digital choices specifically designed for live use. But what I would love to see I think Yamaha already has most of the parts in place for. But this is strictly speculation on my part. With their Digital Mix Engines (DME64 for example) and a few appropriately chosen cards and preamps all that is really needed is a reasonably priced control surface. They have come out with some new DME products recently and I think that they have the building blocks to do some interesting things.

As we are getting closer to October, and the annual AES convention, I would not be too surprised if Yamaha is giving sneak peeks at a new product, but I don't think that picture is it.

Actually PLASA (London, Europe) has been the place to launch new products for Yamaha for past few years. And its only a month away...

Wouldn't a couple of nice big photos leaked on the LAB do wonders for creating a PR buzz?

Just take a look, Orbital Sound had a PM7D back in 2001 already...

Yeah, I saw that one too. I think since the logo for the 1D has the 1 slightly slanted, it fooled whoever did that website.
