OT: XP VPN client for Netgear FVS318?
« on: July 11, 2006, 05:56:01 PM »

Hey, folks -- I figure at least one of you guys is a Networking Genius.

I am stumped.  I have a Netgear FVS318 VPN router box at home, connected to the cable modem, and it works fine.

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection to my network from work (or from my laptop if elsewhere), and the XP VPN client is useful only for connecting to other XP machines.  The machines at home behind the router include a Mac mini, which interesting because it's my Subversion server.

So I apparently need a VPN client.  Is there an option other than spending $150 on a five-client license for Netgear's software?

http://www.lobotomo.com/products/IPSecuritas/index.html

Gives you a free gui to tweek the OSX KAME IPSec stuff.

Problem is Netgear uses IPSec not L2TP.  Check out Appendix 'G' of the manual.  The config for Windows is very similar to what you need to do with IPSecuritas.

I've been able to get this to work on 10.3.4
