Sprit Digital 328
« on: June 27, 2006, 11:48:05 PM »

I see this model is apparently out of production, but I just stumbled upon it on a search for digital mixers, and wondered if anyone here uses them live and has any opinions. People seemed to like them at the time that they were made, but most of those opinions are from recording types.

Why do I need cymbal overheads? I'll just use SM58s on the vocals.

I've been using the 324 (similar console, only 2 internal compressors, but with 4 matrix busses) for everything from symphony shows to battles of the bands to all types of corporate gigs for about 6 years now. Excellent console, very nice sounding pre-amps. It doesn't really meet riders, but I've had no problem bringing even the most novice soundmen up to speed on it in no time when I needed to. The internal effects are wonderful (as you'd expect Lexicon to be.)

Only console I've ever had that really paid for itself in a reasonably short amount of time.

Two reasons I think it didn't take off: Soundcraft put it in their Spirit line, which is really considered entry-level by most people, so many didn't take the console seriously; and the Yamaha O1V (etc.), even though they were poorly designed for live work, did have things like built-in graphics and such, and were cheaper. This console runs rings around those for usability though.
