Par 64 replacement lamps?
« on: May 21, 2006, 09:35:13 am »

I'm looking for some 500w Par 64 WFL lamps. What brands should I consider and which ones should I avoid. Also, if anyone could recommend a source, I'd be appreciative. Thanks and take care.

I think GE is basically the best way to go for Par Lamps.   They do not tend to explode and they last prety close to the expected life time of the lamp.  You can buy cheaper lamps but they seem to have habits of exploding and short life.

www.productionoutlet.com   is a good source feel free to email me directly if you can not find the lamp you need on the store

GE, Phillips, Osram and Ushio all as the main manufacturers of a 500PAR64WFL lamp are all very respectable manufacturers making this lamp and to the best of my knowledge none have problems with not living up to their expected life or exploding any more than that of a GE product.

GE is the main standard in the industry for PAR 64 lamps and their subsidiary Corning makes the glass part for Osram and Phillips but in no way make any better lamp than any other of these “premium” brands.

I am yet to hear from either production staff or client on a problem with alternative PAR 64 lamps.

I will agree all of those you mentioned make quality lamps.  GE, Phillips, Osram and Ushio are the industry standard lamps.  Any of the above mentioned brands are quality lamps that I would personally use on any show.
However there are many imported lamps you can find on the internet that are not quality lamps. These imported lamps are much cheaper and are what some people want but I always try and talk a customer into spending  more on the quality lamp knowing they will be happier. Its just a case of you get what you pay for.  If you are looking for a quick easy fix buy any lamp.  If this is for an install of something u plan on using for awhile buy the GE, Phillips, Osram and Ushio lamps are you will be very happy.

I'm not aware of other than one of the premium brands making a 500w incandescent version of this lamp.

Bulbrite says they make one and it would probably be off shore if they did but that's given it's not resale of one of the premium brands.  Still it's a smaller company with a good reputation which would stand by their product.  Between them, Nelson and Halco, one can almost unless obvious by way of part number never tell what they make verses what they resale.  All also to the best of my knowledge stand by what they resale or make and for the most part are what would be condidered domestic and quality.  This specific lamp one can than assume is fairly safe to go with GE or similar brands on.

Ge has been a great company to work with, their products are built very well and will take the rigors of the road with no problem.

There are others out there who make par lamps, the most common problem I see when dealing with off brands is either the lamp cracks or they do not get many hours out of the lamp over all.

We have installed thousands of the GE lamps, I would recommend them anytime.
