01v96v2 preamps
« on: April 18, 2006, 10:30:39 pm »

I have a (actually very reputable) guy here in St. Louis telling me that the 01v96v2 has horrible preamps.  Says that my current MixWiz smokes it and that I need to go with the DM1000 or DM2000.

Thoughts?

An astrologer told me the other day that my girlfriend and I are perfect for each other because I'm an Aries and she's a... something. The astrologer really believed in what they were telling me, too. I think it's horseshit, especially since that girlfriend is now ex-.

This has been my experience with the mixwiz, and the 01v, and 01v96V2: When I first got the older 01v, I thought it sounded "about as good" as the mixwiz. BUT, by the time you run an insert cable into/out of decent dynamics, the 01v seemed to have a slight advantage sonically. Then add in the 4 band parametric EQ, and the 01V won out for features, tho I really think they sound "about as good/bad as each other". Not the same, but I didn't prefer one over the other. Then I got the '96. I will say the '96 is a marked improvement over the old 01V. More "open" "airy", like walking thru a meadow after a light summer rain.... oh, wait, that is a feminine product commercial. We now return to our regularly scheduled program, do not adjust your TV. Seriously, to me the '96 sounds better than the older one, which again, to me, sounded about on par with the mixwiz. Take it for what it's worth which according to Bennett, is horseshit.

That, in my opinion, is a complete load of crap.

Simon,

Care to clarify exactly which part and/or parts of it are crap?? Be carefull, you don't know which wiz I was talking about, there are three. Are you saying the 01v/wiz comparison is crap, or the 01v/01v96 comparison is crap, or????

I think Simon was replying to the OP and I agree with him. To say that the 01v96 pre's are "horrible" is crap. In my experience they are clean, quiet and transparent. This is a very widely used mixer. If some part of it was "horrible", the word would be out. I don't recall any of the many v96 users on this board ever complaining about the pre's. And comparing it to the DM1k and 2k which cost far more is apples to oranges.
