I have all the experience necessary, and in my day job profession, Mac's make me zero dollars.

Thus, the real reason why you profess to not liking Macs: If more people used them, less people would need your services.

I find that the most cliche-ridden Mac vs PC arguments come from people whose livelihood depends upon the constant cash flow of a PC repair business, and it's been that way for 20 years.

Absolutely wrong.  I work in the private software and defense contracting sector.  We NEVER... EVER, have contracts come in for work requiring the use of Mac software.  It's simply just not used.  Enterprise applications are 99% *nix now.  Office apps and workgroup management and colaboration is 100% Windows.  Every once in awhile we have a multimedia professional that wants a Mac.

I haven't done PC repair/tech work for about 10 years now.  Those was my high school/early college years.

Trying to sell Mac solutions to the clients I work with would be like trying to sell high-end home stereo equipment to the BE for a major touring act.

Just because you don't need to be technically saavy doesn't mean you can't be.

No argument there.  It's just that the Apple adds seem to be aimed at the more artistic and less technical type of people. Apple's biggest claim has always been that you don't have to be a gear head to do what you want (implying that you do have to be a gear head to use Windows/PC).  Can't blame people for getting the impression when Apple is doing everything in it's power to get this message across.

Personally, my Mac experience is really old and limited. I found the paternalistic attitude expressed in how Apple prevented you from seeing what is really going on in your machine to not be to my liking (I'm an engineer and I want to know what's that man is doing behind the curtain).  Windows is going the same way for the same reasons and I hate it.  Sure a closed box architecture makes for a more reliable system for the average user, but I do stuff with PC's that are not ordinary and I really need access to all the knobs.  That's why my favorite OS for Intel architecture is QNX. QNX is Posix compliant, hard real time, has protected memory management and truly bullet proof performance.  QNX is not an optimal choice for playing games or consumer apps, but it's perfect for what I do (plus it doesn't cost much more than WinXP anymore either).

[snip]...the number of times I have had to restore a Mac from a backup is exactly zero.

Congratulations.  I'm about to do a restore on my 2 year old Powerbook.  In the last day or so, iTunes, iPhoto, Mail and Safari have puked.  Upon the last restart following the most recent updates, the dock/desktop have reverted to "like new", and downloaded files don't decompress.  Unfortunately, these events coincide with my installing of Smaart 6 Beta.  I'm am not saying that is a cause, just bad timing.

Smaart 6 is dead in the water on my eight month old Powerbook - ie:  the app will not launch after launching properly about four times.  No idea what this is all about but it hasn't smoked the PB.  I did have my first system crash in six months last week when quiting ProTools - if it's going to crash I suppose it's going to be from PT  Laughing
