Just went through this with an Avid desk and DiGiCo.  I can't remember the specifics, but you should "turn off" the gain sharing channel in the DiGiCo rack and they should sync up.  I believe you do that on the DiGiCo rack itself.

As I said I can't remember the specifics, but it was a hair-puller for a day or so.  The DiGiCo gain sharing gets in the way.

I'm not sure this is possible without some sort of interface in between the two.  The SD8 has BNC MADI connections whereas the Vi Series stageboxes have an RJ45 ethernet MADI connection.

Hi!

Not too familiar with the Soundcraft side of things, but sending standard MADI streams in and out of a Digico console is quite simple. It is all a matter of defining the MADI port in question to send/receive a standard MADI signal in the audio setup. In the D-series consoles this is done in the socket file. One obstacle could be that Digico use the standard MADI witch is 56/56, while Soundcraft use the extra varispeed bandwith to transfer 64/64. Not sure if the Digico can be confugured to be 64/64. In any case you would not be able to control the preamps of the Vi rack. Nor sure of the RJ45/BNC  conversion, but this should be quite simple.

You should investigate the Vi racks abilities to send standard MADI streams without control data.

for what its worth,

Eirik.

The Vi racks have a second optical MADI output that can be either 56 or 64 via a switch, if that helps.

The local rack has a 2nd MADI card but the stagebox does not.

You are correct...that is my mistake. Too much time spent with both racks living together.
