I work for a high school theater that has a Strand MX and 96 dimmers.  We are planing on getting an ETC console some time next year.  For a show this year (Bye Bye Birdy) we want to use some movers.  We can rent the movers at a good price but the guy may not have a controller.

For now I was thinking of getting a  LanBox-LCX  or the LanBox-LCE.  We have several computers we can run it with so that is not a problem.  After the new ETC I still think the unit will be use full so It is more than just a stop gate.  There are other DMX systems in the district too.

Have any of you used it?  Are they reliable?  Are they as easy to use as the web page makes it sound?  This is in a HighSchool but the kids I work with are pretty good.  I have 1/2 of them running Linux!  So computer smarts are not a problem.

I'll try to reply here with the little I have found, although I have only looked at the product on the web.

For a high school unless you need the specialty external I/O offered in the LanBox LCX in addition to the DMX, It would seem the LCE is a better cost purchase in my opinion.

As for the interface you can download a demo and try it when the website has an opening on the test unit at the Company, CDS advanced technology. I personally found the interface "thinking" to be different from conventional programing styles used on other lighting controllers. It would just have to be one more way of learning how the control interface thinks like with just about any lighting controller. As far as I know the LanBox is the only option for Apple Mac computers. There are numerous options to consider for Windows computers.
