DMX to MPX adapter
« on: December 09, 2005, 10:52:46 AM »

I have an old colortran 24/96 DMX out controller I am trying to use it to control 2 Leprecon LD360 dimmers, that are MPX input. I made an adapter cable matching pins 1,2,3, from the 5 pin to 3 pin. It does not work. What am I doing wrong?

Your DMX console can only control dimmers and fixtures that accept a DMX signal.  Since your dimmers are MPX it is a different signal.  There are options to make this work but they will all cost money.  You can get a signal convertor, get a MPX console or get DMX packs.  There can be some confusion when you look at some DMX controllers and dimmers and they use a 3 pin xlr connector and other manufacturers use a 5 pin but make no mistake DMX is its own signal protocol different from MPX

NSI makes a decent (stable) converter for about 250$ If I remember correctly.

I use one of these to run DMX to MPX dimmers.
Works great! And you can get them on e-bay for about $150

Hope this helps.
