low down on NSI MC2448?
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:38:37 AM »

I have a potential opportunity to buy a used NSI MC2448 console with case and LCD monitor.  I did a search on here and didn't come up with much of anything useful.  Is anyone using these?  Are they out of date?  What are they good for and what don't they do well?

I have used it and its very close relative the Colortran Innovator 600 for several years.  Both are the same console software with the difference being the 2448 has channel faders.

They are sort of OK at theater work.  They suck for concert work.  There were many problems with glichy software.  The unit works in such a way that you can run preprogramed ques and sub-masters just fine.  But DON'T bump the enter key.  It will select every channel that is up and freeze it.  The only way out is to black out and reactivate or rebuild a look.  Also it gets confused if you add any thing to a live que running.  For example the actor walks out of there light or you loose a lamp and you need to add one with the key pad.  It can be done but think real hard before you hit enter.

It does moving lights pretty well.  But it is tough to mix moving with conventional on it.  Similar problems as above.

All in all It is usable if you can live with glitches.  I would never want to work on one again though.
