How to record my live show?
« on: January 12, 2006, 02:36:44 AM »

I run a cover band using a Mackie 1604-VLZ Pro.
What hardware should I use to record a live show (audio)?

I would like to use the direct-outs into something
that is relatively easy to use like maybe an MP3 recorder.

Is that what I should be using?  If so, which one?  The
iPod will only record mono files (unless I'm missing
something) and I would like to get CD quality if possible.

well firstly, i wouldn't use direct outs for recording, becuase you'd only be getting those specific channels.

You ought to be able to use the tape outputs of the board to get the full mix, in stereo. They're RCA outputs. A neat looking device, that i haven't tried, but looks handy, is the ikey from gemini. It lets you record two channels to a USB device, including the Ipod. with this thing you should be able to record stereo uncompressed to the ipod.
