Need some dimmer opinions please.

I'm looking at some Lightronics AS 40 dimmers.(LMX)
Also I'm looking at offerings from other manufacturers who make dimmers which are MUCH lighter than my NSI ND5000 dimmers (10 lbs) and wonder why I shouldn't go that way.

I have two Stagecraft dimmers which are the older versions of the lightronics, and they have been absolutely great units. They have run right beside the ND5000's and with less problems actually.

NSI also makes a lighter dimmer quite like the Lightronics which I'm also looking at.

Any opinions on this subject are appreciated.

Most of the weight in tree-mount dimmers is from the chokes and the heatsinks.  Big chokes = heavy chokes = more filtering on the outgoing signal.  Big heatsinks = cool SCRs = longer SCR life.  Both of these are Good Things.  Lighter weight dimmers, especially if they are less expensive, probably compromised in one or both of these areas.
