[ These funny wire fools would just spend their money on crack or gold wheels for their SUV.

Or knobs?  Maybe they have a discount for the quantity needed for a mixing console.

Fancy knobs with good vibrations - oh wow!  I will sleep better tonight knowing I do not have an aneurysm for it surely would have popped upon reading that add.  How is that NOT out right fraud?  I guess I have been under the delusion that existing laws somehow regulate commerce and prohibit sharks from mauling all the one-flippered fish.  No one is allowed to sell the Brooklyn Bridge anymore - um, are they?  Rolling Eyes

I'm thankful that when I was in first or second grade, our school librarian read to my class the story Stone Soup. I don't think I realized it at the time, but it made me aware that we can fool ourselves and allow ourselves to be fooled.

Quote:

Silver Rock Signature Knob
The beech wood is coated several times with C37 lacquer for best sound as pointed out by Dieter Ennemoser. How can this make a difference??? Well, hearing is believing as we always say. The sound becomes much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved.

Doesn't it look like the knob you would find on kitchen cabinets.  Rolling Eyes

Yep.
And the lacquer they are using on those knobs can be purchased from them for as little as $215 for 2 ounces.

This one takes the cake:

Check out the "audiophile grade" outlet covers. They are nonmagnetic and dampen room resonances....... A engineer at McIntosh did some research into the effect that cables have on the sound of your system. Check it out here: http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm The audio shops actually asked him to keep quiet about his findings. Just goes to show you how  many people listen with their eyes and wallets!!!

Bill, the outlet covers on that site pale in comparison with the "Brilliant Pebbles".

They claim you just have to put one jar on each speaker for better sound.
At only $129 for the large jar it is a steal (or would you say theft?).

Seems like you might need full sized rocks (stones?) for use with subs? This is just nature's way of dealing with folks that have more dollars than sense.

On one hand this is evidence of the technical illiteracy of our general population, but there is also an almost total absence of skepticism. Perhaps those are two sides of the same coin but in many cases consumers seem to lack the judgement to know where to look for real differences and where spending more money could generate real improvement. To wit chasing vacuum tube mic preamps instead of more/better speakers and perhaps more power.

Re: Believe the hype?-Dog crap
« Reply #28 on: July 23, 2006, 07:42:47 pm »

I think a scented pile of dog crap would work better.  At least if it was on top of the loudspeaker (directly and not in a container) it would help dampen the top and wouldn't buzz and rattle like the rocks.

After a little while it will attach itself to the top firmly, so there is a break in period-as all good audio equipment has. Laughing
