What Gear Would You Endorse?
« on: September 29, 2005, 09:27:55 AM »

I know in this business everyone has their favorite this, or their favorite that, but if you were to buy it all over again, what gear would you choose? Put another way: What brands of gear would you swear up and down by?

Example: FBT MaxX speakers

That's a pretty loaded question.  We all have our favorites.  and someone will rebut everyone's favorites.  So I will go out on a limb...

Non Pro audio answer: Yamaha Guitars!
I love 'em.  I have one guitar that I have had for about 22-23 years.  It plays awesome and sounds great.  It has nice inlays and the finish is top notch other than the fact that it has 23 years of abuse on it.  I have bought many guitars but this is the one I can't get rid of.  They just don't build them like this anymore, at least not short of about $2000.

The usual suspects...

EAW tops and Danley subs
Midas boards and EZ-tilts
QSC amps
BSS and KT processing
TC Electronics FX
Neumann, Shure and Audix mics (ok...a few Sennheisers)
Whirlwind cables
Ramlatch mutlipin connectors
Neutrik cable connectors
Ulimate stands

So if anybody from any of these companies wants me, I am yours for the asking (and the free equipment of course... Shocked)

- ATM Pro37R Condenser Mic. The best workhorse and most versitile little beast I've seen down the years - for the least $$.
- QSC amps in general. A VAST improvement over their earliest stuff! Great service and assistance when needed as well.
- Shure Beta 57 and 58. Really nice step up from the SM series.
- Sony MDRV6 Headphones. Made me a believer that Sony could put out a sonically decent product. Best noise cancelling in any headset I've owned yet.
- Second the Speakons. Add the combo XLR and 1/4" jack!
- EWI BugKatcher cable tester. Really the best.
- Neutrik Minirator. My system troubleshooter and general lifesaver.
(added:) - The Rane MA6. Heavy as Heck, but where else can you get 6 channels of audio (3 channels bridged) for that kind of money in a 3U rack space - and not be 18" long? Even with no level control.. still the best answer for those smaller corporates, modest monitor amp duty, and multi-speaker zone applications. (yes, there are better and newer, but NOT in that price range..

I'm STILL waiting for Beyer Dynamic to send me a box full of M201s and an M88 for lead vox.

Shipping address available upon request, Mr. Dynamic.
