Softwares
« on: December 16, 2010, 11:15:48 pm »

I'm in the process of exploring dmx software and read an article about the Grandma softwares (3d and PC). They state that these are free but I'm assuming that they are intended for a purchaser of one of their huge consoles, right?

Thanks!

So this would be something anyone could use? I guess the part that confuses me is that it states it needs no hardware but how would one convert files from your computer to your set up?

the software is free, but you need an interface to get the dmx out of your computer. this can be done one of two ways. you can either get a 2 port node or a NSP unit, the former being the cheaper of the two options at ~$1500 for one universe. supposedly you can output via artnet, but i've never tried it.

only with one of the aforementioned pieces of hardware

if you're looking for cheap pc control, chamsys can output one universe of dmx free w/ the enttec dongle...total cost of about $100
