Hello efreak,

The driver fit is very close even with the 15mm Birch! This is because we designed the punisher for the Caire 2004 model. When they released the even heavier 2005 model (T/S parameters are the same as 2004 model but better cooling, it now handles 1000W RMS instead of 750W RMS) this one turned out to be somewhat deeper. Make sure you keep the internal measurments of the small driver compartiment the same otherwise the Ciare 12.00SW will NOT fit in anymore!

Try to keep the internal dimensions as much the same as possible. But since it is a basshorn and the wavelengths involved are big a few mm more or less is no big deal. It is much more important to have a solid en air tight construction.

Here in the Netherlands 15mm MDF is very hard to get, 15mm birch is standard. But I found out you can get almost everything if you ask around. A Punisher out of 18mm birch will be very heavey! If I were you I would try to find a source for the 15mm birch plywood.

Best regards,

Walt

Walt,

Thank you for your response. What do you think about using 15mm mdf for the speaker baffle only and 12mm birch for the cabinet?

Hello efreak,

In that case I would use 15mm MDF for the inside panels and 18mm Birch for the exterior of the box. I think 12mm will be to weak. Doing it this way you only have to change a few dimensions on the plans.

Best regards,

Walt

Im sure that walt can give some tips on the best construction order, and rear chamber details. If the parts are cut accurately it should be a breeze!

Hello guys,

I want to point out that we have made some small ajustments on the Punisher design. The Punisher II is meant for the Ciare 12.00SW model 2005 (8-spoke basket) Performance of both designs is the same as are the outer dimensions. The construction drawings are already updated. Within a few days a cut sheet for Punisher II will come out.

Best regards,

Walt

Can the Eminence Magnum 12HO work in this horn? It probably won't be as well as the Ciare driver, but I just want to know.

I'm interested as to why you'd want the Magnum 12HO...it's about $70 more expensive than the 12.00SW here in the states (unless of course you have some lying around!)

ciare woofer question
« Reply #27 on: June 13, 2005, 02:45:00 PM »

Hey Walt. Where do you find that CIARE SW12.00 WOOFER. The closest woofer in Ciare site is PW331, now replaced with PW332. Is that the same woofer or I just can't find it. By the way I think that Punisher is a good design. Can you describe the sound (slam) and extension if It is used alone halfspace.

Thank you

12HO Xmax  - 4.8mm

Ciare 12SW - 11.5mm
Perhaps the Ciare is cheaper in europe??

the 12HO has similar specs.
