single 12 or 2x12 in lab sub?
« on: March 09, 2005, 12:09:04 PM »

Sorry for the dumb question but I cant tell by the drawings if there is a single 12 or 2 of the lab12 drivers in each box.

Also what is the average cost of materials in the usa?

I believe they use 2 12s in each cabinet. I did some pricing a while back, and I think it would have cost me $700-$1000 per sub.

Horn subs are kind of like the sign of the serious sound provider, because they get used in serious situations where you need a lot of system to get the job done. This is especially true in the case of the LAB subwoofers where they are large but they perform amazingly even for their size. If you have eight LABs in stock (four per side) you have enough bass to do pretty much anything. Not everyone needs this type of bass, otherwise the LAB subs might have been more popular. I'm sure Tom Danley could have made a lot of money selling this design under his own brand name, like "Danley".

Hi Theo - Some have made a LabHorn for as little as $500, but you must be good with a table saw and router. Four LabHorns complete with hardware and a coat of truck bedliner will cost you a week of your life and $3000. Add in 4 RMX2450's and a dbx 260 and you can put out 10KW of 32Hz bass.

Unfortunately, LabHorns are like potato chips, you can't stop with just one.

See Pete Sylvester's website:

You're right, you can't stop with one, or two!

I built two to go under my 4732's (one per side) and i'm very happy with them.  Amazed actually, but there's a part of me that just wants to keep cranking them out.  I'm addicted!  Is there a support group for this???  Smile  "Hi, my name is Chris...and i'm a Labsubaholic"
