EV ZX5?
« on: February 08, 2005, 06:06:57 AM »

anyone who have used these and got any opinions?

i'm thinking of purchasing two for to use on smaller rock concerts (appr. 100-250p). Probably with 90 degree coverage. They would be used with a Dynacord CL1600 amplifier (same as EV CP2200) and with four 1x18" RCF 1018 subs (driven by 2xCL1600). Giving a total output of 4400w in subs and 1000w in tops. It would be processed by a DBX DriveRack PA.

Any opinions? anything you know about the zx5 would be interesting. How it works as monitor, how it feels to drop on your toe.. anything Razz

Hi David. I 've been in Germany 3 weeks ago and was impressed very much visiting the EVI center in a little town named Straubing ( Actually the location of Dynacord factory, 107 km north-east to Munich ). I spent a lot of time in listening tests to almost all of the new EV and Dynacord speakers. Among them the Zx 5 and Zx 4. The Zx 5 is a well tone balanced speaker, much more musical than it's earlier Sx300, lets say a super Sx300. It's intelligibility and sound quality makes it a highly recomanded speaker especially in terms of weight and cost not to mention it's wedge capability. I really liked this esthetic Zx 5 with the NON plastic sound. The Zx 4 has other components compares to the 5, lets say a half step down but still a half step up in terms of Sx300.

Mmmmm... I forgot to mention that I've listened to both versions: 90x50 and 60x60 ;The 60x60 is a bit more accurate and focused and if you are looking for more than two pieces then go 60x60.    By the way, here in Israel, the Zx 5 street price is 1150$.

EV ZX5 vs Mackie SRM 450

Israelraz:

Just wondering how you would compare these two speakers.  Could you explain a bit more about why you did not percieve these new EV speakers as being a plastic sounding box?  I think I know the sound you are referring to, and I am currious what EV has done to eliminate or minimise this "sound"

Thanks

hi Israelraz,
i would like you to comment on the zx500 with regards to the srx715 and mpro415 if you have listened to them b4. i have tried the 415 and 715 in ab w a ma5000 (slightly over powered for the 415)and like the 715 more in terms of its better sounding highs and tighter bass. due to budget constrain, we may not b able to get the 715  Sad . recently we had a poposal for zx5 and have been considering it. b4 asking for a demo i would like hear from your tots about the speakers. thx for ur help.
ps. even its a unfair comparison ie. wood vs plastic, it will be helpful to hear your tots about tis.

Hi. I have A/B tested the Zx 5 vs SRX715. In the passive mode I prefer the Zx with no doubt. Well in the biamp mode of the SRX ( The Zx is passive only),The situation becomes more complicated what makes the Zx to be the winner here.(Not to mantion the price and versatility).
