Passive IR Transmission

Does anyone know of a passive means of transmitting IR at a projector?  (Other than mirrors).  Everything I work with needs power supplies but someone posed me this question and i did not know for certain if this did not exist.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would assume you're looking at a way to run a remote control ?
Would a fibre optic cable work ?
Build a little holder for the transmitter that fixes the cable end at the emitter....
