lab12 sticking?
« on: March 23, 2005, 01:33:57 AM »

this is a wierd one.

One of my subs shows a clip/short.
i pull the sub out
using a mx3000 "stereo"
sub is shorting.. pull off plates battery test speaker.. first 3-4 taps it sparks a little more than im used to and i cannot verify sub movement but it sounds 'funny'
then the sub starts popping like it should.

both speakers seemed to move properly and freely before i conducted a battery test. it was dark and i had no other tools other than my drill and a mini light.

almost seemed like it was stuck.. anyone ever come across this?
i double checked my plates + wiring to make sure there was no shorts.

uh....

maybe they're blown!?

Our went shorted when they blew. 2 moved in and our fine, but the voice coils were melted and shorted.

If you got a good amp, plug it bare wire, straight into one of the drivers and see if it goes into protect. If so, its blown.

good luck + fingers crossed!

When you get a chance measure each driver at their terminals for DC resistance with a multimeter. It should be around 3 or 4 ohms. This is much safer then checking to see if your amplifier blows up or shuts down.
   Measure them all and compare.
