A horn with this?
« on: January 13, 2005, 11:54:32 PM »

I just had a stupid, stupid idea. Does the Adire Brahma 10 look good for horn-loading? It has lots of BL but the Qts is a little off.

IF it models well with a 'ok' compression ratio,id consider it for home use but maybe not pro.

I know the Brahma 10 is a car sub, but it looks like it's even more robustly made than the HL10. It has a Qts of 0.40, which is only 0.2 less than the LAB12. I'll have to have some conversations with Dan Wiggins (owner of Adire Audio) about the Brahma's suitability in a horn but early Hornresp stuff looks promising for a relatively very small, very loud horn subwoofer. The Brahma 10 handles 1600w RMS and 4800w peak, so I would say its optimal power for pro use is in the neighborhood of 2800 watts. Its sensitivity is relatively low, only 83dB 1w/1m, so this could dampen the excitement some.

Matched to the right horn it will be 50% efficient like any other. The question is,is the throat size realistic, and rear chamber usefully small.

Its an expensive woofer, and not good value for money to use it in my opinion.

Remember that excursion is only SPL potential.
Also remember that 800-1600w is only 3db at the most, and is probably less due to nonlinearities.
Power compression isnt known on this woofer not distortion performance.

Cheers

In relation to that, it's also lowfrequency potential.

Higher distortion car SPL pieces.

The amount of distortion that a resonant car hides is suprising,I realised when I put my jbl 2226 in the car,the sound was hidous and the car made too many rattles and noises to be enjoyable.

Yeah, it's only the Brahma sub that looks like it might be useful for a pro sub because of its no-frills design that is performance-oriented. (No plastic "eye candy" pieces).
