Who is mixing the Van Halen tour?

I caught it last night at the Ford Center in OKC, OK (terrible arena).  The Prism system sounded narly.  Midrange distortion was interesting.

It was not meant to bash the guy.  That was a completely different question from my comment on the Prism.  I had never heard that squawl out of that system before.  That's why I said that it was "interesting".  I had heard that EVH fired the engineer early on, so I didn't know who this guy was.  Given the fact that VH is practically bass free compared to modern rockers, I thought that it wasn't that bad.  The snare drum sounded closer to a drum than the traditional sound also.

I guess the band had a hard time hearing, because any of the songs that had sequences/tracks in them made the thing come apart.  Eddie spent some time yelling at techs, and actually invited one onto the stage to talk while he was in the middle of rapping up a solo.  He didn't miss a lick.

I've yet to hear the Prism system sound the way I'd like to hear a concert.  I haven't been a system engineer in charge of one, so I can't say it is (or isn't) the rig itself.  I suspect that many of the times I've disliked the sound, it's been voiced the way the Band Engineer wants it.

In point-- Alan Jackson... Figured I'd hear a nice, full, rich, male vocal.  Boy was I wrong... I sounded like a cardboard megaphone with a mid-1980's metal band kickdrum... lots of "sizzle" and not much else.  Was it the rig?  Probably NOT, as the next 4 Nashville national acts I heard sounded almost *exactly* the same, regardless of the PA speakers.  I suspect the sound reflected the "currently in vogue" Nashville sound.  Bad sound du jour.  Somebody in management, leaning over the mixerperson's shoulder, dictating the mix....

I think the Prism is a very responsive rig, and it responds to the bad just as mightily as the good.

I'll probably keep that opinion until I mix on one a few times.

I think you have hit the nail on the head!! I have about 200+ shows on a prism rig and I thought it worked well ... it put out what I told it to!! I do have more shows on S4's, V-DOSC, 850's, ElectroTec LabQ's, Martin F2's and a few different Turbo systems. They all worked well.
