SR history
« on: July 23, 2004, 07:11:51 am »

Hi! I have been surfing around the Internet searching for some history on sound reinforcement. Most of the information i get is on recording and film sound.
Where did they start using sound reinforcement as we know it today? Why and how?

I submitted a short piece with a few pictures to the old LAB a few years ago and can't find them now. The commercial driving force for SR was sound for movie theaters after the advent of "talkies".

Any idea what those horns are ?
(my guess would be Western Electric 555 drivers on 25A flares)
Amps ? SR history seems to be woefully underreported.
Anyone know what was used for Hitler's Neuremberg rallies ?
A fascinating subject.
cheers

Yes, that was a WE system, speakers and amplification.

Now for an early horn see picture attached.
