Are you just jealous becasue a DJ's ROI is about 10 times that of the average sound company?

But seriously,

Live sound is my passion, but as a poor community college student there's no way I could afford to start my own sound company and invest $20,000 (min.).  I started as a DJ service becasue the initial investment was very small, and all of my gear could pay for itself in a few wedding gigs.  Now i'm dumping my money from the DJ business into gear for the sound company.  

I am looking forward to the day when I can put DJing behind me and spend all of my time at FOH or in the studio.

Here in Sacramento, the DJ gets $500 a night for a 4 hour show.  That is better than all but the very highest name bands get in this area.

I worked with a good DJ at some weddings I've done, and tried to book him for my wife's surprise 50th party.  He is book more than 3 months in advance, so no luck.

Good money here for entertaining DJs.

Dj's in my area perform week in, week out to full house capacity & bookings lined up for months to come, this is far more then what can be said about any band here. This is why my number one customers are dj's. Think about this, all profits made are his & not split up then shared with all band members & this is why I have to show my respect for them (also cause I got my start as one). They make for more stable clients in that, when was last time you heard of a dj breaking up? now ask the same about the number of bands out there.

This type of post should go in The Basement, if anywhere.  This is a pro audio forum.  Your post serves no purpose but to reduce bandwidth.

I know there are a lot of new faces around here.  I imagine I am a new face to those new faces.   I have been absent (touring, festivals, one-offs, etc etc etc) since around the beginning of April.  This was also about the time the forum switched over to the new format.  Things certainly look different on the LAB today, in a variety of ways.

I don't expect newbies to catch the flavor of the old board.  It's gone.  However, this new place will develop a personality as well.  

For anyone wondering, the word of the day ought to be "professional decorum".  If you don't know what that means, I'll be happy to illustrate it if you post something that either doesn't belong here or is improper in tone or attitude.

Nice to see the old place is still running, and while I'm not so crazy about the new format I'll get used to it just like everyone else.  I must say I very much like the admin tools  

I'll be around for a while, at least until the phone rings.....

If the phone hasn't rung yet....any chance that you're going to be with Third Day when they come to NE. (Godstock) the first week in August?  It's a festival  with local production so I have my doubts but thought I'd ask anyway.

In fact Doug didn't reply to your post, but to the original poster. I don't know which wieving mode you are using or whether you use the e-mail notification or not, but if you read the board in "tree wiev message and topic listing" you can clearly see who responded to which post.

As for the e-mail notification I'm confused myself. Shouldn't it only send an e-mail when someone replies to MY post? I get notifications whenever someone replies to a thread I posted in, and the more posts in the thread the more notifications I get (up to four for a single reply).

Ok, ok, we can take a joke. I thought it was kinda funny!

Seriously, there are many kinds & types of DJ's as there are bands. Darlene & I prefer to be labeled as mobile entertainers because 'DJ'ing' is only part of what we do. We emcee as well as teach dance.

Oh, and we don't take breaks! Sorry, couldn't resist.

As far as pay goes, our minimum performance rate is $600 for 4 hours. Most of our gigs (wedding receptions) are in the $1000 range.

Did I mention our nightclub opening soon?  

I almost forgot. Using our excess equipment (and adding a bit more), we are entering the local sound system rental business. ROI. Ya gotta it!
