Hey guys,

Looking at the MA series desks. What are your opinions? Specifically the GrandMA ultra lite and the GrandMA Micro

As well does anyone know the current US$ or CAN$ list price for the Micro?

I don't know much about MA.  Supposed to be a high quality product but I've never used one.

They are good boards....depends on the application, and the amount of features you need (as always the case when making control decisions)

I know many people who use the Grand MA and have no problems.

You gotta love the "Push to Erect" button!  (found on the Grand MA....not sure about the Lite or Mini)

"Push to Erect" there is some of that typical lighting guy humor! How would you compare it to a flying pigs system like the Wholehog III?

It’s for general use applications. We do mostly production work like bands and theater but I want room for growth.

From everything I have heard it will more than accomplish the task.  I have heard the transition coming from the industry standard Hog II should be alright....syntax is completely different on the Hog III and not getting as much praise...I think it has to do with all the turmoil in the mfr's camp.

Yeah, if the choices are between the Hog III and the MA, I would go with MA.

(you could ask about other boards, and I might offer some more opinions, but I will only deal with the questions asked).

What is your time frame?  When do you plan on purchasing....have you considered a rental to see if it is really the board you want before making the capital expenditure?  Things you may want to consider.

Wait a minute...you are asking about the micro, and then you ask about the HogIII?

It might be wise to figure out what you budget really is, before you try and compare apples to boomerangs.

Let me know what it is you are really interested in....or did I take this thread off on a tangent, myself?

I did ask about the micro, cause I had never hard of it. The lite or ultra lite is board I would probably get. Do you know of a comparable whole hog board?  I also just saw a review of the Jands board. Any comments?

BTW: Yes I would defiantly rent the board before I spent the $20,000

I think a consideration, in that price range would be Avolites...Azure with a tablet is a nice setup.  The Pearl is also a solid option.  I will see if I can get some list prices together, and give you a better idea of features per dollar if you are interested.

AS far as Wholehog goes, I only have first hand experience with the II and III.  II would be a better option, but more than you've budgeted.  III would be out of the question unless you more than double your budget.

Nothing in that price range RIGHT NOW.

Maxxyz is less $ than WHIII....but if 20K is your number, it will still be out of reach.  We do have some demo boards, but still not within your budget number, unfortunately.  Maybe you should talk with Paul at Erickson....he could even give you a tour around the board, if you want.  (email me directly if you'd like his number)  jbrock@martinpro.com

Do you have any knowledge of the AVO line?  Theatrical style of control and very well built.  Very easy to get around, as well.

Check out the Pearl...it would be less than 20K (US, I am talking...btw what is the exchange rate now?)  Maybe even be able to get one for under 20K CN.....
