One report I head was that attendance dropped from 200k to 50k at the last show and even more big companies failed to renew so they anticipated further declines.

Trade shows are a business just like anything else, and I never really understood what unique market comdex addressed.

That's going to be quite an impact on SR/AV and production businesses in Vegas in the fall.  I did COMDEX several times in the 80s through  90s and two years ago as part of PSW.  The last time I went it was pretty weak.  The first time I went in 88 or so I couldn't get a room in town it was so packed, we stayed in the car in the parking lot at the Trop.  In the mid 90s it was absolute chaos, the show was so big it was difficult to see in a few days.

Networld Interop and MacWorld were much more interesting to me in recent years. I doubt we'll see Vegas COMDEX back at all.

I thought that the company that ran Comdex went bankrupt ...

That's true - The company running Comdex went bankrupt last year, and another large events organizer called MediaLive International (used to be Key3Media I think) purchased the assets and ran the show.

I was last there in 2000. I seem to recall a lot of time spent watching Election results bickering on the giant screens at the Sony booth. It was ridiculously huge and unfocussed at that time. There's no way anyone could justify the expense any longer.
