after doing some research in the archived section, i found several threads about a new and "improved" Lab Sub 12" driver.  It is my understanding that eminence has agreed to build this new driver which is based on the Magnum series motor structure.

Has anyone heard whether these drivers are available?  What is the cost difference between the original and this "updated" driver?  Will the driver include the Magnum's "phasor"? If so, what if anything would be improved by the "phasor" in the context of the Lab Sub?

I read a post by Tom Danley where in he questioned the need of and perhaps the benefits of the new Driver.  However, if the T/S specs are the same, wouldn't the newer driver offer some performance and durability advantages??

I am just a beginner in this build it yourself audio, so all input and commentary is welcome

Hi Steve,

This does not answer your question, but I wanted to mention that the new Magnum 12HO does NOT have an aluminum phasor, it just has a regular paper dustcap. It uses a 4" coil like the other Magnums. I suppose that the new LAB driver could go this way, too.

last i heard distortion was lowered but only above ~150hz.
A larger shorting ring was needed and the issue was,to decrease magnetic material in order to fit the ring or not etc etc

Price wasnt much more at all.
Id consider it.
