Crown MA-5000 or Crown I-Tech?
« on: May 21, 2004, 03:17:20 PM »

I-T8000
2100W @ 8
4000W @ 4
3500W @ 2

I-T6000
1500W @ 8
3000W @ 4
2500W @ 2

I-T4000
1250W @ 8
2000W @ 4
1800W @ 2

Above are the specs for Crown's I-Tech line.  My cost for an I-tech is only marginally higher than for the Macrotech line (I'm a dealer for both), but I'm not sure what to go with.  The I-Tech line is optimized for 4-ohm loads, but I don't need the DSP features, as I'll be running my LAB subs with a Driverack 260.  I like the MA growl, and I could probably get a B-stock MA-5 for about the cost of the I-Tech 4, but I'm torn here.  I also kinda want the flagship amps - they're, well, pretty.

Does anyone have any experience with this new line of amps, or any general advice?

The I Tech is stable down to 1 ohm. You'll lose even more power though.
I'd go for the IT 8000 and run 2 per side. Compared to a MA5K running only 1 per side, you'll need half the amps, half the man power (weight), and save 4 rack spaces for every IT. AND with the built in DSP, it'd be easier to run subs off an aux.
Assuming the IT sounds good and can take the punishment...

Try 'em both and pick the winner.

If You can get the Itech for just a bit more money than the  MACRO techs, there is no question. Go with  the I tech. And If you can give me a good price and I also will go with... Laughing
