Power Pod 8 inch bi-amped, Co-ax monitor
« on: May 11, 2004, 12:38:40 PM »

Had a chance to demo one in the shop yesterday.
Its essentially a VERY small footprint box with a bi-amped co-ax 8", metal grill, and the Power Pod amp (all on the face).  Very attractive cabinet design.  Pole mount for dual/tri purpose monitor/main/sidefill.

A clip light is on the amp module to let you know when you are driving it (to clip).  Quarter inch in and thru plus a volume knob on the amp module.  Believe freq. resp. went down to 75 hz.

Vocals sounded smooth and clear.  CD tracks were able to be boosted to high SPL with no cliping.  I honestly could not turn it up loud enough to make it clip.. My ears hurt before then. haha
With the CD playing a moderate level, I was able to sing thru the same box and again, everything was clean and clear.

Should be able to have more  time on this box with a band as well as solo acoustic guitar / vocal in the next few weeks and will give another update and include pics.

Till then,
Rain

Do you have a link to this monitor?  A quick Google turned up mostly computer stuff.

Thanks

Hey Jim
No, sorry I don't.
Dropped by two days ago to see how they were progressing on the 8 inch and the 12 inch monitors.  Looks like a few more tweaks are underway such as moving the amp module/face plate to a centered location.  They are also putting it out as a painted box and a carpeted model.

OF COURSE, Randy Frierson is in the Cayman Islands until next week sometime, but ya might wanna talk to him about getting a unit on demo if its something you'd like to hear.

The spot styled monitor, PVM1,  has been a pretty good product from these guys too.  Saw lots of em on the shelf waiting for sales or delivery.  PPA also built a small 10 inch active sub that I think will have a lightweight 240 watt amp on board.  Im anxious to get my hands on those!

Again, sorry I dont have a web link for the actual monitor.  I will email them and ask the crew at PPA why they are not updating their web site/product lit. area.

In the mean time, you can get a bit of info at http://www.concertsystemsusa.com/index2.html

Let me know if you find out anything more.
(and I'll do the same)
