Curious about page generation time
« on: May 08, 2004, 01:17:22 pm »

An irrelevant question for Ernie or Dave:

Why does every page in the forum give you this kind of little statement at the bottom:

"Total time taken to generate the page: 0.00892 seconds"

I can see how that information is useful to the operators - keeping track of the efficiency of the system. But I really don't see how it would be useful or interesting to have it publicly displayed.

You don't like useless trivia? It could show up in the ProSoundWeb edition of Trivial Pursuit....  Rolling Eyes  I think it is indeed useful to us admin types, and as a user visiting different forums, I like seeing that display just as a quick check on how quickly their systems are working. Plus, there can be a really significant different between the time it takes the system to generate the page and the time it takes for you to recieve it over your internet connection, and this is a quick (though hardly definitive) check of that difference. And if pages are suddenly taking an inordinate length of time to build, a user can notify us by referencing that timestamp.
