I hope I don't inflame Craig by posting this message, but here goes.  Could anybody direct me to someone who could potentially build a couple for a church install?  There was a guy/professional advertising on this website in the white pages some time ago, but I've been unable to find anything on him as of late.

You might get better results if you happened to post your location. Rather than looking for a commercially built version maybe you could find somebody in your area that is already building some that would help you out with a couple more. But if you have them built and they have to be shipped half way accross the country, you would probably be better off just buying SPL BDEAP 32's.

This guy, Keith Mack,  is in Takoma Park, MD and I believe he has the LABhorn measurements loaded onto his CNC machine. He has not made a set but he has built a ton of pro sound speakers.

No problem!  As long as a company does not build this design for profit/commercial sales, its OK. We understand that many folks don't have the woodworking chops or access to the proper machines (saws, routers, air compressor, etc) to build them. Getting a small wood shop, cabinet shop, or carpenter to cut up the parts for you would not be an issue. I would suggest that you would find a small shop that would allow you to assist in the parts cutting, as well as the assembly of the cabinets, as this was intended to be a "hands on" learning project.  Any good small cabinetmaking shop or quality carpenter shop with a good table saw should be able to make up all the cuts, even if they don't have a CNC computer machine. In fact, a few folks who have build LAB subs didn't even use a table saw, but instead cut the parts out with a circular saw and a guide bar.

Not only will helping build the subs give you  some more insight to cabinetmaking, but you will improve your woodworking skills, as well as get a real sense of satisfaction of helping make them!

This is why I made the suggestion of finding somebody somewhat local to him that was already building subs and offer to help. I'm trying to work out a deal somewhat of that sort myself. I've got the tools and pretty much most of the skills. If somebody came around with materials and the willingness to help with the labor (and or the cost of the materials for my own), we could probably work out an equitable arrangement. The second, third, fourth, etc are going to be a lot easier to build than the first one and I'll still have the jigs (I pretty much make up jigs for anything I'm going to make more than one of.)

Keith is a great guy, he does all the custom AV furniture for the company I work for.  He and I(mostly he) worked on getting the peices put into the computer for 4 LABS.  We ran out of time on that day, and there were a few pieces we didn't have a chance to get into the machine.  I just got thru cutting the horizontal flare pieces last night. His CNC doesn't have the tilt head to do the compound miter stuff.

I'm also in a similar situation.  Like bass, hate wood.

I'm in Milwaukee, WI, and need 4-6 LAB subs built by the last week in July.  I have a box truck, and could pick them up within a reasonable (or even an unreasonable) distance.

let me know if you have your needs covered, we re getting ready to build a pair, maybe 2 pair, if we re cutting, maybe we could cut and build them for you, then you could come to michigan and pick them up and load them yourself, or we could do that too, so all you have to do is hual, then plug n play.
we re located in the TriCity area of michigan.  depending on where your at, you could come thru chicago, about 5 hrs from us. or use the ferry from traverse city, about 3 hrs from us... either way, it is a possibility.

Hi all,

If you are not into woodworking, or dont have the tools, do as I did, take your sheets of wood to a laser cutter with AutoCAD drawings.  They charged me $95, and they cut all the pannels, and holes in less that 10min a cabinet ! its great to watch!.   They however dont do miters, so you have to do them yourself, but after that, its just a matter of screwing it all together.

what kind of business has a laser cutter? a furniture manufacturer maybe? where would i start looking for such a machine. I'm all for the pride of making my own sawdust, but speed may be of the escence.

Yeah, I like to do the work myself, but in the past Iv had to get 50+ PA cabinets cut, and the laser cutters make that job easy.
They can cut anything from 1/2inch aluminium, to 2inch plywood,  great machines !!

They should just be listed under "laser cutting" in you local directory, im sure you will have one near you.
Have a look around on the web. I can help much being here in New Zealand, but hey, if we have 3 places in my local area, im sure there is someone near you that does laser cutting.
