Acoustic control product manufacturers

Other than Auralex (more MI than I want) and RPG Systems (what I want, if they'd ever call me back), who else makes acoustical control products that would work well in a visually-sensitive corporate environment (city commission chamber).

Well, of course after I recommend that you go get an acoustical consultant who will help you out with your needs, id say you should keep trying RPG, they have some nice things from what I have seen. If that fails also have a talk with Acoustical Solutions, they make some nice industrial and commercial sound proofing and control products.

You do. Or your friend with all the fancy power tools.

I assume your goal is to "deaden" the room? IE, there's too much reverb. That "acoustic foam" stuff is just a sales ploy. Fiberglass insulation, same stuff you put in walls, does a much better job of absorbing sound, and is more effective on lower frequencies. All for a fraction of the price.
Build some frames out of 2x4's, cut the fiberglass to fit, and wrap it all in thin cloth. The cloth has to be thin enough to the higher frequencies to pass. A good way of judging that is to see if you can blow through it. But it also has to be thick enough to keep the fibers in. If your frames are big, you'll have to put another 2x4 through the center, and let the fiber glass rest on top of it, for some extra support.

Not quite.

Industrial noise abatement products also have a certain fire rating.  While a load of 'glass and lumber from the local Home Depot would do the trick, it's not only more time and trouble than I want to put up with, and not rated in any way.

We've decided to go with products from Acoustics First as they have what we were looking for and were actually good about returning phone calls.
