What microphones do you have?
« on: April 23, 2004, 06:40:52 PM »

We just got 2 new Audio Technica's. They're pretty good...i have only used them in one service, and forgot to compare to our other ones. They are Artist Elites. The model # is EA4100 i think. i'll update if it is wrong. http://www.audiotechnica.com/prodpro/profiles/AE4100.html

The other microphones that we also have are two Audix 0M2's and an Audix OM5.  Shocked I can't remember if they're OM5's or 6's, probably 5's.

We have 6 micrphones that we never use anymore, and those are some Audio Technica's. I don't know which model they are, nor care which model they are Laughing, The grils are all bent and wrecked.

Which microphones do you use for your 'house of worship'?

Vocalists mics: Beta 87 ULXP.  Contractor sold us 8 Senn EW100 last month, but they don't sound as good as the Beta 87's and two have already died.  The EW100's are going back to be replaced with more Beta 87's.

Choir mics: AKG C451

Brass section: Shure BG4.1

Sax: Clip on AKG C418

Conga: SM57 (it was available)

Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums: None, DI's and V-Drums.

Vocals - Sennheiser e865
BG Vocals -  SM-58
GTRs - SM-57
Keys - Whirlwind DIs
Horns - SM-57
Bass - Countryman Type 85 DI
Kick - AKG D-112
Snare - Sennheiser e604 or SM-57

I'm really beginning to take a shine to the Sennheiser evolution series. The e865 is a condenser mic and sounds great on our vocalists.  Lots of output too.  Next, I'd like to audition the e609 for guitar.

Choir, OH, SOLO: AKG 535
Solo, drums: SM58
Bass/guitarr: IMP2 & Phonic DB2
Wireless: SAMSON SERIES 1 (i would not recommend those to anybody. crap!!), Sennheiser EW100.

There is a pretty heavy ambience (is it called that?) in the "room" so miking drums is almost never necesary.. maybe kick sometimes. Most times it just makes things worse.

Handheld wireless-Shure UC series Beta 87c
Lapel wireless-Telex FMR200 (mic is good, bodypack has a high-low gain switch instead of a dial though)
Backup, Solo vocals-SM58(3)
Spares-Peavey PVM38's(3) (would like to get wireless beta 58's and switch the sm58's to backups)
Choir-Audio Technica AT835's(2) (would like to try at3035's or ksm27's)
Bongos-Peavey Celebrity Series Condenser EC1 (found it laying around and decided to play around with it)

We're planning on dropping our drums into a pit and enclosing them and we haven't decided which mics to use yet.

I've also found an original Shure 55SW That I am planning on putting up for display and possibly break it out once in a while to use to record with.

Minister - Countryman E6 on Sennheiser EW100 pack
Handheld Wireless - EW135 (e835) Sennheiser
Wired Vocals - Superlux PRO-238, Superlux PRA-238B, Sennheiser e835, Audio Technica ATM41
Choir Overhead - AKG C1000S in hypercardiod mode
Acoustic Guitar - Superlux CM-H8K/H, AKG C1000S
Dobro - SM57
Harp - Superlux CM-H8K/H
Flute - Countryman EWM IsoMax with flute clip
Congas - SM57
Chimes - AKG C1000S
Podium - Audio Technica PRO-49  Thumbs Down
Ambience Mics for Recording - Superlux CM-K8H cardiod in X-Y
Bass - Countryman 85 DI
Keyboards - Whirlwind DI
Drums - No mics - Sanctuary is too small

Misc. Comments: I really like the PRO-238 on most vocals. Its large diaphram provides warm and detailed sound. Somewhat pop sensitive. The CK-H8K/H hypercardiod is wonderful on guitar, especially 12 strings, harp and almost any other stringed instrument. I have used Superlux PRO-268 mics on choirs and they work very well. A pair will be replacing our choir mics as soon as I can get them. AKG C1000's can make good vocal mics for some women. I do not like the podium mic and plan to replace it soon

I'm not in a HOW, but I do a Christian act now and again - does that count? Smile  I'm 100% Audix:

Vocals: OM7 (VX10 if it's a quiet stage and I have plenty of gain before feedback)
Kick: D6
Floor: D4
Racks: MicroD ADX20D
Snare: SCX-1 (or D4 if I need the SCX for OH or Strings)
Hat: As above
OH: SCX-1s or ADX118
Perc: D4, ADX118, or Micro ADX20I
Strings: SCX1, ADX118, or ADX20i
Horns: D4, or Micro ADX20I
Everything else: D4 or ?

Timmy, have you ised the wireless system of Audix yet? Let me know what you think of it compared to the Shure ULX-P series. I am talking about the transmnitter/receiver part. The wont mess up on the mic soon....

I was not aware that they had one.  When I find one with an OM7 head for a bargain price, I might give one a try.  So far I have not had a request for a wireless, so it will have to be really cheap.

The Sabine is very interesting, but they don't offer it with an OM7 head.  I am exceedingly skeptical of the notion that their modeling trickery can make an OM3 or OM5 head sound anywhere near as good as an OM7.
