I see Grant broke the news of Al's passing.
Here is a few words from his friend Jim.

Qoute-
Al Passed away last night.
Went and saw him yesterday afternoon.  Trooper Roque was there, Carey and Beth.  Later, John showed up with Maybe August and they played and sang a song for him.  Beautiful three part harmony. Not a dry eye in the house.  No funeral, but there is going to be a memorial bash at some point.
end Quote-

We all loved music,
We all loved our friend.

I am sorry to hear this, I wish the best for the family and friends.
Curtis, that ( friends and music) sounds like a nice farewell when there is no choice, take care.
Best

Hello All - We knew Al through his fabulous work at the NorEastr Folk Festival in Mio over the past ~10 years or so.  He was a one of a kind sound person who handled many trying situations with grace, charm and always a smile - he made all of us sound better.  There are no words to express how deeply he will missed by that community - our deepest sympathies to his family and friends and peace to all.

Al took care of many events in the State of Michigan during the summer months. He did it with a PA that was built in my garage.
With DIY and an understanding of what some older gear is capable of he was able to charge a reasonable rate for the service.

Many event promoters are going to have a rude awakening when they find out how much more it will cost while the quality of the gear  and personal  goes down.
I wish them luck.

I'm so old, when I was doing FOH for Tommy Dorsey, to balance out the horn section I would slide their chairs downstage and upstage to mix!
