Yep, I'd say really....... the last few times he has come through there have been 4 Clair custom 12AM with dual 12's in them and STUPID loud vocal levels! like....... extreme 12's caving in kind of loud.....

Strange..I always remember seeing the guy in in ears?  I could be mistaken

Not just 122db from wedges... 122 at the ears from wedges. That's a pretty serious FOH rig for a rock show, aimed at your head from 6 feet away.

I remember reading an article maybe 15yrs ago that basically said the same thing.  One of his guitar players was quoted as saying that during part of the set the guitar players get up with him on his riser-and they can't wait to get off of it-because the levels were so loud.

I guess nothing has changed.

Of course once the hearing starts to go-it takes more and more to get to the same "apparent" level.

Sir Elton has a significant hearing loss in both ears and it's been that way for 25 years.  More than simply an artist request, these levels are necessary for him to perform.

The last time I was local crew, we could easily hear his wedges above the PA mix, from off stage right, a good 10m. away.

that's really not THAT bad...

I've had guitar players on stage with that coming out of their amps, at FOH, with the PA off...
