If all you can afford is the PGX, use a wired mic.

preferably, NOT a PGX wired mic...

If you get the pgx with the SM58 capsule then it is fine for small budget applications.  They are by no means professional grade or anything like that, no would i use them if the mic was going to be more than 50' from the receiver...but for a small mobile rig on such budget constraints, if they really want wireless, then that's the direction that i would point them...the PG58 capsule on the other hand is horrible...

I carry a PG48 in my toolbox for us as FOH/Mon talkback.  It was the cheapest switched mic I could get for that function.  When it falls off the console and hits the floor (a) it's switched off and (b) I don't care.

Horrid was the day it was the only switched mic around and became the MC mic.  I feel bad for the musicians that have to listen to me now.

the talkback in my carry-kit is an e835 that i've had since they were introduced.  it may have hit the floor a time or two, but it's functional, probably sounds better than the average club house mics and more importantly, it was free!
