I guess if I spouted this stuff I wouldn't want to get called out on it either.

"rotate those knobs until something or other changes"

I dunno, I've had plenty of gigs like this . . . . ;D

From the article:

"You will note the measurement geeks never speak of applying Smart or whatever to the strips."

That's rich.  Using an analyzer on the cue bus is a powerful tool, and I know many who not only advocate this but teach it, myself included.

Whatever.

Teach me please oh great and respected one.

"This approach assumes that you have decent headphones (and preferably an external headphone amp). Sure, you can do it in the system, but then you get the mic pre with the room and all the system “stuff” "

WTF?? Heaven forbid you want to factor in the variables that you're actually dealing with.

Yeah, I noticed he was commenting on the PSW forums in his last article...

I'm trying to decide weather he's a misunderstood genius who doesn't know how to express what his concepts are.  Or if he's just off the handle...

Who decides which articles get "printed" on PSW?  If the general consensus is that he's full of shit, why is he still published?  I imagine that the controversy is part of the reason, but not one person has come to his defense on this thread.  It doesn't speak very highly of PSW's integrity.

I have been using SpectraFoo on channel eq for a while now to help me eq acoustic instrument di's.  I put the measurement mic in front of the acoustic instrument, listening to it in headphones and moving it around until it sounds like the instrument.  I then eq the DI to "match" the measurement mic.  It has worked pretty well.  It takes a patient musician, but they have been happy with the results listening back in the monitors.

I want to take it a step further and get a U47 or something like that and use it as the reference.
