Truck-pack dimensions ???
« on: August 02, 2011, 07:45:45 PM »

So we were having a "disscusion" in the shop yesterday concerning what was the current truck pack dimensions when it comes to cases. Most of our guys said it was the 90" inside dimension, 22.5"x22.5", 22.5"x30", 30"x45" and 30"x30". I myself have not seen a 90" truck in years, pretty much all the trucks I have seen out there, especially from Ryder, Penske etc., are 96" or more. This would mean 24"x32", 32"x48". Am I totally of base with this ?  Where are you guys on this especially when it comes to specing new cases?

Hey Doug,

Take a look at this thread from the "old" forums.

David Buehler has some good insight.

While 90" trucks are not that common, sea freight containers are 90".
So you might want to consider 30"x 48" and 24"x 30" which covers both 96"trailers and 90"containers.
My main client has all their backline packaged around those dimensions and it has worked very well.

Cheers,
John

Truck pack size depends on what type of truck you are primarily using.

14'-16' Box Trucks run typically 90" inside
24' Household Rental Trucks run 91" inside (from Penske anyway)
24' Commercial Box Trucks run 96" inside
Semis run 99"-100" inside.

I had forgotten about sea containers as I have only dealt with them three or four times, good point. Lately I have been doing the 30"x48" and 24"x30" for my cases I spec, but was considing just doing the 96" standard only. Pretty much all the trucks we deal with are 96" or more. Household rental trucks we don't deal with for the fact they they don't have e-track. Of course there was last week where we had a last minute show confirm and all we could find was a household truck, Oh Well thats show business. I was talking with Mike from R+R Cases and he said some of their clients were starting to move to 96" only case dimensions because of the apparent wide-spread availability of those trucks. I guess the standard you use is still a company by company decision. Still thinking.....

Cheers everyone, thanks for the replies
