Projector Voltage Booster Location

While on a setup, a few of us were having a debate on if the location of a voltage booster for a projector matters.  Specifically, does putting it in the air right next to your projector vs putting it on the ground next to the receptacle have any clear advantage?

Some might say that you'll have voltage loss between the booster and the projector if you have to run a lot of cable.  But the resulting voltage after loss is still well within operational range of the projector.

The opposite argument was for weight and safety.  Eliminating extra weight if your rigging capacity is limited, or not having any real way to put a safety on the transformer (without permanent modifications) were the counterpoints.

Any electrical concerns?

Assuming you mean a step-up transformer, reducing line losses is why power companies run high voltage lines.  Higher voltage means the same power delivered with lower current and lower current means less resistive line loss.  So if you would be using the same cable in either situation and the cable is properly sized for the higher voltage then having the transformer at the power source should incur lower losses.

Yup, it's a step-up transformer.

The projector draws 4800 watts.  At 208 volts (pre-booster) current is at about 23 amps.  At 240 volts (post-booster) current is at 20 amps.

The cable we use is 10 gauge cable rated at 600 volts.

The cable coming out of the projector is only 12 gauge (it's hard-wired into the unit).  That seems a bit low to me, but perhaps since the length is so short, it doesn't matter as much?
