rack mount mixer
« on: July 28, 2011, 01:43:21 AM »

hello

we are in an ongoing process to make a universal driverack for
rack'n'stacks gigs. The last "brick-piece" is that we need a mixer
for recieving and send signals back and forth between FOH and monitor
and the possibilty to have av emergency mic and send the cd signal
to various places.   Right now we have a Mackie 1402 . But we need
something with more output capabilities. A mackie 1402 with 4 aux sends
would be perfect. But that doesnt exist :-(. But something along that line.
Preferrable rackmounted. Do any of you have any ideas ?

A wizard or a 1604 i a little too big, since it has to be rackmounted

Thanks

For Stacks and Racks, I'd think such interfaces would be for the hiring company to provide, but perhaps things are different in the USA...

Perhaps the APB Mix Switch (or a pair of them) could do what you need.

Have fun, good luck.

I'm not sure what kind of user interface you would need it to have, or the budget, but a Soundweb London with either laptop control or BLU-10 touch screen would certainly give you the IO, and the processor plus BLU-10 would take up 5U.

Otherwise, maybe put the Mackie 1402 in a rack drawer?

Tim and TJ

we are the providing company. And i have been thinking the digital way also.
But in a stressed situation, i think analogue is a bit faster.  We have a
couple of DME'24 that probably would work just fine. But it is the
user interface that has to be qiuck and understandable. I was think a
Beh x xxxx r BCR 2000 might work as well.

And TJ, we already have a 1402 on a drawer. But it ran out of output
during som festival setups.

Hi Magnus-

I guess I'm not clear on what you need to send to where or what about digital would be a challenge in the field.

In the "ideal world" we're looking for the "Swiss Army Knife" of system drive & routing.  I want to feed it up to 16 inputs (any mix of AES/EBU and analog), matrix those to 8 outputs (again, possibly a mix of digital or analog) and have EQ, dynamics processing and delay within the routing.  My goal is to take the outputs of multiple consoles from multiple bands, plus dedicated house music, emcee and emergency announcement inputs and drive the system.  A digital solution would allow me to have each BE's preferences for aux subs, front fill and outfill levels, EQ, etc. saved and recalled for each performer's set.  The options thus far are expensive for the demand we get for such things, and that is why on a smaller scale I really like the APB Mix Switch ahead of a smaller system processor.

In my earlier post, when I said the "hiring company" I was referring to whomever hires the stacks and racks from you.  I can see how that was not clear.

Have fun, good luck.

In addition to the other recommendations, Would something like this work?

We use the GB2R-16, its limited, However everything it does have, works fine for us.

If the show is big enough that BEs are specifying a variety of consoles, I don't think they'd be too receptive of the fact that their $$$ console will be routed through a bargain mixer on its way to the system processor(s).

The console signals passes through an XL88  . This mixer solution is only for talkbacks, emergency mic, pause music etc. .
