So have a client who has a dbx Driverack 480. About a month ago it came up saying Checksum err! So we went out replaced the battery. Performed a hard reset. It was fine for two weeks. Did it again. We sent it to a dbx authorized repair center, they found nothing wrong. Got it back installed it first thing checksum err! Wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Does it have the latest firmware? Back a few years, there was a specific firmware update for the DriveRack 260 to correct "Checksum Error". I don't know if there was something similar for the 400 series.

My guess is a software issue... nothing in my memory about that on the 400 series, best bet is to contact tech support @ dbx... they would be able to best address your problem.

Checksum errors are generally the result of corrupt NVRAM / firmware / single bit memory errors / processor failure. You've headed in the right direction by changing the battery, and the second step will be to further isolate the problem by upgrading the firmware to the latest version from DBX. If you continue to have issues after that then consider this a hardware issue and send it to DBX for repair.

Can one update the software, or do you need to send it back to dbx?

Absolutely. You'll need a null modem cable to attach to the serial port of the 480 and from there you run the Driverack updater that you download from DBX. The whole upgrade takes less than 15 minutes.

We use a USB to 232 adapter to program it. Can Thisbe used as the null modem cable?

If you're usingthat cable to talk to the 480 now it will work just fine. Once you start the updater you will be asked what COM port you are using. Choose the COM port that you use to program the 480 and you should be all set.
