Seeking mixer to subst for obsolete model
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:41:45 AM »

I'm an installer, mostly schools, courthouses, churches.
My favorite workhorse analog mixer has been discontinued. Not finding close replacement.

The MCB8002 by Intelix is discontinued. Bogen has a virtually identical model called CAM8, but I can't buy Bogen because of a local competitor.
Digital solutions exist, but not with the right knobs and at least double the cost.

Here's what I need:
8-channel (mic/line) 2-bus mixer, rack mount
Volume knobs on all ins and outs, bus assign switches (A, B, A+B) on all inputs
No other user controls (it will be used by non-technicians)
Phantom power on all inputs
Remote volume control connections would be nice (Intelix had a model that did that, but without 2nd bus)

Closest I've found so far is a Behringer zone mixer with 6 ins and 3 outs

If you can live with just 4 of the 8 inputs having mic pre-amps (and all 4 sharing a common phantom power switch), then check out the Rane MLM82a.

I like the Ashley LX-308B, but only 2 of the inputs have mic pre-amps, no phantom power, and you only get one knob to control the stereo output bus (but you do have individual pan control for every input).

You might find better options if you broke the mic pre-amps out separate from the line mixer.

All more than 1RU but the Rane MLM103, Ashly MX508 and Australian Monitor MX883 all seem to at least come close to your goals.  The TOA M-633D is 1RU with six mic/line and three mono/stereo line inputs.

Take a look at the Allen and Heath GR series.  The GR2 may work for you.
