First let me say thanks for giving back and not charging big bucks for this, although you may change your tune in the future! Haha!
What I would like is for someone to concentrate on sorting out the digital skullduggery. I've been doing audio for 29 yrs. and I understand gain and ins and outs and how delay and arrival time differences can affect phase and how reflections can cause cancellation and I just need someone to help me get through the frustration fest of trying to get the digital stuff sorted out. Sheesh! Whats a dodec? I haven't needed any "baloons" lately. Now I do? What the...??? If someone could give a course on SMART and not have it digress in to a remedial school on acoustics, that would be nice. The laws of physics have not changed for a very long time and their are many wonderful books on acoustics and wave propagation but the digital user unfriendliness sometimes seems as endless as trying to find the edge of the universe! (end old soundman dinosaur rant)
HELP!
THANK YOU, Chuck.

We do plan on doing demonstrations on reflections and how measurement position affects them.

Dodecs are used to energize the room and measure for reflections, reverb time etc.

Don't use balloons unless they are properly calibrated.

Seriously tpopping the balloons is used as an impulse to measure room acoutics.

There are many different "sides" to digital.  From consoles to DSP's to differences between DSP parameters

Why does this forum contimue to screw up when I am typing.  It gets very hard see what you are doing and just hope I am typing the correct thing.

Oh well. so much for this post

So are starter pistols and yachting cannons, although less so in these days of heightened security.  Thankfully, modern technology also allows us some other techniques.  But speaker balloons to show are still very useful to visually represent the speaker pattern.

Peter Mapp had a typically, for Peter, very humorous presentation that included a section on balloons used as acoustic impulse sources.  As I recall, he tested, a bit tongue in cheek, how different pressures, methods of popping the balloons, colors (do they colour the sound?), etc. affected the actual impulse derived.

With some of the rooms I have been in lately only a pistol or cannon could get far enough above the noise floor.  It was an NC around 65!  Gonna be a fun job-NOT.

Another note of interest.  It looks like Tom Danley and Doug Jones will be attendance at the meeting.  Not for presentation-but for the final Q&A and conversations during breaks/lunch etc.  Ya know-when the REAL learning is going on  at these events.

Unless something changes (which I doubt), there will also be some guest "audio guys" (Tom Danley and Doug Jones) for the discussion sessions and for general "networking".   Both are always fun to talk to.

As Ivan has already mentioned Doug and Tom will be there but also there will be our new National Sales Manager Paul Giansante who most recently was the head of tour sound for Meyer Sound for the US and European markets. Before that Paul was with Turbosound for several years. We are very excited to have Paul joining the Danley team.
