Hey Friends,

I was wondering how may of you use the Audix I5 for snare and are you happy with it.

I usually use a Shure 57 or an Audix D1 but I want to try something elso out on snare without breaking the bank and also something that can take a hit and not break into a million pieces.

I do most of the time. I do have a beta 57 I use as well. If the snare sucks, it makes little diff.

Audix i5 or Sennheiser e905 (use a right angle XLRf plug) on top and a Audix D3 on bottom. Haven't used a 57 on snare in a l-o-n-g time... .

I'm using i5 mainly on guitars. Good utility mic for just about anything else that comes up like brass and percussion. But I've got a ton of other D series mics so I keep the i5 mainly for axe duty.

I've used an I5 exclusively on my snare for the past 3-4 years.  I think it is a great mic for that application.

Just to clarify; using the DMC1 by CAD http://cadaudio.com/accessories.20090903.php#drum_mounts it is nearly impossible not to get a great sound, sans any (mic) stand for top snare micing. Don't mind the plastic stock Sennheiser clips I use with the 5/604's on toms and floors. Obviously, the snare bottom gets a stand that fits round the HH- a tripod that goes over a low profile cast iron base...

It makes a great snare mic. Its a little beefier and it has a little more crack right off the bat compared to a 57.
