Labor Rates
« on: June 21, 2011, 01:20:18 PM »

What are some going labor rates in the midwest?
I've got the opportunity to do some freelance work here and I want to make sure I'm not stealing business by undercutting anyone.  That only drives the rate down for everyone and screws the industry.  I've always done work for companies and for specific organizations for hourly rates, never had to make my own.  This particular AV company is asking for all kinds of contractor rates for various jobs and what-have-you, and I'm looking for a little advice in the area here.  Or just point me to a thread if this has been covered.  I did a search for labor rates, but only rates on gear rental came up.

Thanks,

Trevor

depends a lot on which city, and your skill level.  In Chicago, A1's make $250-$450 for weekend 10 hour calls using some else's gear.  Not an a1, less.  An a1 plus gear, more.

that's about the same as the Toronto market as well

I know NY/LA rates are somewhat higher, in the 3-500 range, as for other areas not so much

It really depends on cost of living wherever you are, the higher the cost of living, the more people are going to charge for gigs
