Just wondering if they side panels NEED to be aluminum or can they be another material?  Is it mainly for heat conduction or another reason? The price of aluminum is huge $500 for 4'x8' sheet (.25").

Also, I've seen some people have "metal footers" for the bottoms of the subs.  Can I buy these or does somebody make them or what exactly are they?

I believe Silas used  Plate steel in some of his. Heat dispersion is def part of the material selection.
